The story of brothers Pedro and Ángel Zurdo, aged 79 and 73, is the central theme of the documentary Montaña y salud (Mountain and Health). Both have overcome cancer and use physical activity and contact with nature as fundamental pillars in their well-being and recovery process.
Pedro Zurdo, residing in Gálvez (Toledo), and Ángel Zurdo, a resident of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, maintain a strong connection with outdoor activities, especially hiking. The documentary captures their recent trip in late May through Asturias and Cantabria, focusing on traversing emblematic sites within the Picos de Europa National Park.
Pedro tackled routes such as the Cares Gorge and the itinerary to the Urriellu Refuge, while Ángel documented the experience. Beyond the landscapes, the production aims to convey a message of hope and inspiration for individuals undergoing illness or recovery, encouraging the adoption of healthy habits and connection with the natural environment.
Pedro, who overcame prostate cancer and uses medical devices, faced these demanding treks. The documentary's creators emphasize the importance of adapting physical activity to individual conditions and seeking professional advice, promoting an active lifestyle over sedentary habits.
Ángel, after overcoming an arterial injury and prostate cancer treated with radiotherapy, also highlights the care received at the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria. Both brothers advocate for the combination of medical advancements, professional healthcare, and a positive attitude as keys to recovery.
