This decision is based on information provided by the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The territorial scope affected by the alert includes Gran Canaria (eastern, southern, and western slopes) and La Palma (summits and western slope). Temperatures in Gran Canaria are expected to locally reach 40ºC in the southern and western midlands, and southern and southeastern low-lying areas. In La Palma, temperatures could reach 37ºC in the western and northwestern midlands.
Maximum temperatures could exceed 34ºC on the southern slopes of El Hierro and La Gomera, in the southern midlands and metropolitan area of Tenerife, and in the Tejeda basin in Gran Canaria. In Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, highs of 34ºC are expected in inland areas of the southern half. Additionally, elevated nighttime temperatures are anticipated, making thermal recovery difficult.
