The event, organized by the Gabinete Literario and The Conversation España, will feature presentations and activities focused on the Ocean, Earth, and Sky. A highlight is the plenary session 'La Tierra habla: un enyesque de palabras' on Thursday, November 4th, where Professor Maximiano Trapero and Professor José Yeray Rodríguez will explore the richness of the Canarian language.
On Friday, November 6th, Professor Antonio Jesús Fernández will address the health of large marine mammals in the session 'Why do whales die? How to heal a huge wild animal that lives in the open sea?', investigating the causes of cetacean deaths and their connection to marine environment health.
Additionally, ULPGC will be present in the traditional 'ChachaEscucha' format, featuring brief and dynamic presentations. Professor Nayra Rodríguez will offer 'Don't choke on emotions', a practical session on the link between language and emotion, and researcher Marta García will present 'Crumbs from the past: ingredients to reconstruct a hidden history'.
About a dozen researchers and doctoral students from ULPGC will participate in the first regional contest 'My research in 5 minutes', where they will present their work to a jury of experts and the public. The winner will receive 1,000 euros and the opportunity to publish their study in The Conversation.
During the jury's deliberation, a round table titled 'Where is science going?' will take place, featuring ULPGC's Vice-Rector for Institutional Coordination, Transfer, and Entrepreneurship, Sebastián López, and Professor Víctor García.
The festival is sponsored by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and supported by the Gran Canaria Association for UNESCO, with participation from the Institute of Astrophysics of Canarias (IAC) and other institutions.
