The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has begun its teaching collaboration with the newly established Public University of Nouadibou, in Mauritania. Professor Salvador Benítez is the first ULPGC lecturer to teach at this institution.

Professor Salvador Benítez from the Department of Hispanic, Classical, and Arabic and Oriental Philology has traveled to Nouadibou to teach a course in Spanish language and literature. This educational initiative is jointly funded by the ULPGC and the University of Nouadibou itself.
The collaboration between the ULPGC and Nouadibou, the second most important city in Mauritania, commenced in 2022. Subsequently, in November 2025, a delegation from the ULPGC's management team attended the inauguration of the city's new public university. During this visit, various cooperation actions were agreed upon, including strengthening the teaching of Spanish at the new institution.
In this manner, the ULPGC continues to promote academic relationships with African countries, within the framework of the Bridge to África consortium.
