The initiative, developed through the U-Fit ULPGC program, has provided participants with certifications in warehouse operative, food handler, and forklift operator. In addition to technical training, the program included Spanish classes focused on the workplace, occupational risk prevention training, and a significant number of volunteer hours at the Food Bank.

During the certificate delivery ceremony, a spokesperson for the Canarian Government highlighted the importance of training as “a sure path” towards labor inclusion and personal growth. They emphasized that migration is an unavoidable reality that must be managed with the aim of offering a dignified future to those arriving on the islands.

The rector of the ULPGC, Lluís Serra, pointed out that the program trains young people in fundamental areas such as language and logistical skills, facilitating their access to the job market. He also announced that a second edition of this project is already underway, given its positive reception and results.

For his part, the president of the Food Bank of Las Palmas, Pedro Llorca, stressed the relevance of training to combat precariousness, stating that “without training, there is no future.” The proposal is part of a cooperation agreement between the Vice-Ministry of the President's Cabinet and the University Foundation of Las Palmas, aligned with the Canarian Agenda 2030, seeking to actively integrate young migrants into society.
