The incident occurred last Friday, April 17, at approximately 8:30 PM, in the Montaña Alta de Guía area of Gran Canaria. The child's parents contacted the SUC while transporting him in their private vehicle to the Santa María de Guía health center, as reported by the Canarian Government.
During the journey, a coordinating nurse from the SUC provided the parents with real-time instructions to control the minor's bleeding and monitor his level of consciousness. Simultaneously, from the emergency room, the SUC alerted the health center so that the medical team would be prepared for the injured child's imminent arrival.
Additionally, a medicalized ambulance was dispatched to the health center to facilitate the minor's subsequent evacuation to a hospital. Upon arrival at the health center, Primary Care professionals began assistance alongside the SUC medicalized ambulance team.
After an initial assessment, it was confirmed that the minor had severe polytrauma. Once stabilized, he was transferred by medicalized ambulance to the emergency department of the Hospital Universitario Materno Infantil de Canarias. Throughout the process, SUC professionals maintained constant communication with the receiving hospital, providing detailed information on the child's condition, the accident's mechanics, and the actions taken, which optimized his care upon arrival.
