A passenger has been arrested at Gran Canaria Airport after one kilogram of methamphetamine was found hidden in their checked luggage.

Agents of the National Police have arrested an individual at Gran Canaria Airport who was carrying one kilogram of methamphetamine. The narcotic substance was hidden in a checked suitcase and was located during a preventive control.
The incident occurred after the arrival of a flight from Madrid. During routine inspections of passengers and luggage, officers detected the presence of methamphetamine, leading to the immediate arrest of the carrier and the seizure of the drug.
The detainee, along with the seized drug and the corresponding police reports, has been handed over to the competent judicial authority. The investigation remains open to clarify all details related to this case.
According to the Superior Headquarters of the Police of the Canary Islands, the operation, named Operation HEISENBERG, took place on May 29th. It is part of the prevention and control efforts aimed at combating drug trafficking in the archipelago's airports and ports.
Police investigations indicate that a significant portion of synthetic drug trafficking to the Canary Islands is carried out from mainland Europe, primarily through regular air connections.
