The Department of Employment and Local Development of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, led by Juan Díaz, has allocated 149,864 euros for the creation and refurbishment of new training classrooms. These facilities will be part of Radio ECCA's EccaLab project and will be located at the ECCA Campus on Avenida de Escaleritas in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The initiative, to be developed throughout this year, aims to provide professional certificates that align with current labor market needs. The program will focus on the rapid qualification and requalification of adults, thereby facilitating their entry into the job market through collaboration with companies and the establishment of these new spaces.
EccaLab will offer practical training in five key sectors: surface and furniture cleaning, the food industry (industrial meat product preparation), sociosanitary care for individuals in situations of dependency, basic accommodation services, and basic kitchen operations.
The design of these classrooms seeks to replicate real work environments to effectively prepare participants for their future employment. The program is aimed at both the unemployed and workers seeking to redirect their professional careers through practical learning. Furthermore, EccaLab aims to improve employment opportunities for vulnerable groups and bridge the gap between available training and business demands.
According to counselor Juan Díaz, the project intends for the training to respond "directly to the needs of our productive fabric," offering "a real pathway" to enhance participants' employment prospects. The subsidy was approved at the Cabildo of Gran Canaria's plenary session last July, enabling the allocation of the necessary funds to launch the program.
