Researchers affiliated with the ULPGC's University Institute of Tourism and Sustainable Development (TIDES), Aythami Santana Padrón, Javier de León Ledesma, and Yen E. Lam González, have published an article titled “Does it make sense to charge the same ecotax to all tourists?”. In it, they address the need for this tax to adapt to the visitor's profile and spending level.
The text questions whether it is appropriate to apply a uniform rate to all tourists, regardless of their spending capacity or environmental impact. The research suggests that a progressive ecotax could be a more effective tool for promoting environmental sustainability in tourist destinations.
The Conversation Spain serves as a channel for disseminating university knowledge. The ULPGC joined this platform in February 2020, and its researchers have published over 290 articles on it.
