Two professors from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), María José Miranda Martel and Sebastián López Suárez, have published an article on The Conversation proposing journalistic investigation teams as a model for innovation and leadership in companies.

María José Miranda Martel, a professor in the Department of Economics and Business Management, and Sebastián López Suárez, a Full Professor of Electronic Technology, have authored the article “Spotlight: journalistic investigation teams as a model for innovation and leadership” on the divulgation platform The Conversation. The text uses the film “Spotlight”, which portrays the real-life case of the eponymous investigation team established by The Boston Globe newspaper, as its starting point.
Drawing from this case, the authors suggest that journalistic investigation units offer lessons on how to organize and lead teams operating under pressure and uncertainty, which can be beneficial for the R&D+i departments of companies.
The Conversation Spain serves as a primary channel for disseminating knowledge originating from universities. The ULPGC joined this platform in February 2020, following the initiative promoted by CRUE-Spanish Universities. ULPGC researchers have published over 300 articles on this platform, which also has editions in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Indonesia, and Africa, in addition to its Spanish edition.
