Preparations for the historic visit of the Pope to Gran Canaria are entering their final phase. Event coordinator Enélida Hernández has shared the latest details, highlighting the organizing team's enthusiasm. A delegation is already on the island overseeing final arrangements to ensure everything proceeds as planned.
For the over 50,000 registered attendees for the Holy Mass, a website will soon be available where they can confirm their attendance using their ID. After security checks, a ticket will be printed and a wristband issued. Hernández stressed the necessity of carrying a physical, printed ticket as a precaution against potential technological failures.
“"We will have to have it on paper, printed"
The security wristband, to be collected near the stadium, will be crucial for accessing assigned zones, guiding attendees with color-coded sections. The printed ticket will be validated with the ID at the entrances.
Regarding the turf of the Estadio de Gran Canaria, the planned 8,000 chairs will not be placed on the field. This decision stems from the uncertainty surrounding Unión Deportiva Las Palmas's league position and the possibility of them playing crucial matches soon after. The organization prefers to be cautious to protect the grass.
“"We are not going to be able to enable the chair setup"
The pre-registration period to attend the mass remains open. Interested individuals can still sign up and, after data verification, obtain their ticket. Attendees are asked to be patient and monitor official diocesan information channels and the press for instructions on obtaining tickets and collecting wristbands.
