Sixty young people from Vocational Training in Gran Canaria have completed the first edition of 'Active Youth', an initiative by the Sergio Alonso Foundation that has transformed them into 'agents of change' through the creation of awareness campaigns for social entities.

The Sergio Alonso Foundation has concluded its 'Active Youth' program, which began in January and involved sixty students from Basic Vocational Training. These young people, aged between 15 and 17, have designed and produced awareness campaigns for five social organizations in Gran Canaria.
Educational centers such as CIFP Cruz de Piedra, CIFP Tony Gallardo, IES El Batán, and CIFP Telde collaborated in this project. The initiative highlights the foundation's commitment to active learning methodologies, connecting students with the real environment and allowing them to acquire knowledge through practice and participation in actions with social impact.
The students were responsible for the conception and production of campaigns for entities such as APROSU, Comedor de San Pedro, Felices con Narices, Yrichen, and Aflora. They not only created audiovisual material but also planned the approach, message, and recording using their own devices. In this way, they gave visibility to stories related to disability, vulnerability, mental health, and addictions, told from their perspective and with their own codes.

"In this context, Basic Vocational Training is consolidated as a key tool for educational and social re-engagement."

The process culminated last Friday, April 25, at CIFP Telde with the awards ceremony and the reading of the 'Active Youth Manifestos'. At this event, students shared their impressions and concerns, as well as proposals addressed to public institutions. The Sergio Alonso Foundation distributed 2,850 euros in five awards. The first prize for Best Integral Campaign, endowed with 1,000 euros, went to CIFP Cruz de Piedra for its work with APROSU. The second prize, of 750 euros, was awarded to CIFP Tony Gallardo for its campaign for Comedor San Pedro.
The third prize, for Technical and Creative Quality, with 500 euros, went to CIFP Telde for its project with Aflora. Additionally, two awards of 300 euros each were granted: for Teamwork, to CIFP Telde for its collaboration with Yrichen, and for Commitment and Evolution, to IES El Batán for its campaign with Felices con Narices.
Basic Vocational Training is primarily aimed at young people aged between 14 and 18 who have not successfully completed Compulsory Secondary Education, offering them a path to continue within the educational system. The foundation highlights that this reality is especially relevant in the Canary Islands, where basic vocational training faces a high risk of educational abandonment, close to 50% of enrollments. Projects like 'Active Youth' seek to strengthen students' self-esteem, provide them with useful learning, and facilitate their entry into the labor market under more stable conditions.
