A 50-year-old woman has been evacuated by a medical helicopter in critical condition after suffering a drowning incident and subsequent cardiac arrest at Playa del Inglés, in the south of Gran Canaria.

The incident occurred this Wednesday when the Emergency and Safety Coordinating Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert from the Spanish Red Cross beach rescue personnel. The call reported a woman with symptoms of drowning and cardiac arrest at the aforementioned beach.
Red Cross lifeguards initiated basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers on the affected woman at the scene. Subsequently, medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) who arrived at the location continued the resuscitation efforts.
After successfully reversing the cardiac arrest, the woman was urgently transferred. A medical helicopter from the SUC was responsible for her evacuation for admission in critical condition to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria.
During the rescue and evacuation operation, firefighters from San Bartolomé de Tirajana secured the area. Additionally, officers from the National Police, Local Police, and Civil Protection collaborated in support and coordination tasks for the operation.
