Club Voleibol Guaguas Las Palmas has announced the signing of Xavier Folguera, an experienced 37-year-old Andorran setter, as their third reinforcement for the 2026-27 season.

Xavier Folguera (Andorra, 1988) arrives at Gran Canaria from Cagliari, bringing an extensive career in leagues across Spain, France, Belgium, and Italy. The Andorran player joins Paquillo Fernández and Miki Fornés as the new additions to the yellow team.
Folguera admitted that the offer from Guaguas changed his plans: "My idea was to go to Madrid, but you can't refuse Guaguas." After playing in Cagliari, he acknowledged that other offers were not convincing, and the call from the Gran Canarian club was decisive.
The new signing expressed his pride in joining a "winning team that fights for titles year after year," highlighting that Guaguas has established itself as a benchmark in Spain and Europe since 2020. Folguera considers the sports project "one of the most attractive" due to the ambition shown in the Superliga and the CEV Champions League.
As a setter, Folguera will share the position with Io De Amo, whom he admires for his "very spectacular play." Folguera himself describes himself as a "precise" setter who "likes to play fast, help with the serve, and also contribute in defense." Despite being 1.80 meters tall, he is confident in "compensating with technique, tactics, and creativity."
At 37 years old, Folguera has a long career that includes stints with teams such as Soria, Ibiza, Unicaja Costa de Almería (where he won the Superliga in 2015), Teruel, Belgium, France, Melilla, and the aforementioned Cagliari. He now faces a new challenge in Gran Canaria, an island he knows from sports visits and hopes to explore more deeply.
