The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for strong swells and wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour (km/h), affecting Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and Lanzarote starting this Sunday afternoon.

Specifically, the risk for coastal phenomena will be concentrated on the coasts of Lanzarote, as well as the eastern, southern, and western areas of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Concurrently, strong winds will be felt in El Hierro, La Gomera, the summits and western parts of La Palma, the summits of Gran Canaria, and across all of Tenerife, excluding its metropolitan area.
This meteorological scenario in the archipelago is part of a national context of generalized temperature drops and rainfall on the peninsula, caused by a cold front and the formation of a low-pressure system in the Mediterranean. Aemet has activated warnings in 13 autonomous communities for various phenomena, including rain, storms, wind, and snow.
On the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, winds will blow moderately from the north and west, with very strong gusts in the Strait of Gibraltar, the Ebro, and Ampurdán. In contrast, in the Canary Islands, the trade winds will be strong, presenting very intense gusts. Temperatures on the Peninsula and Balearic Islands will experience a generalized decrease, with notable drops in maximum temperatures, especially in the central and eastern peninsula.
