A 23-year-old man has been remanded in provisional prison in Gran Canaria, accused of the death of an 84-year-old tourist in Maspalomas following a meeting arranged via a dating application.

The detainee, identified as A.R.H., was apprehended in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by officers of the National Police. His girlfriend, M.P.T., aged 44 and also implicated in the case, has been granted provisional release but must report periodically to the court handling the investigation.
Both appeared before the Court of First Instance on duty in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, giving their statements via video conference from the Palace of Justice in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. They are charged with homicide and violent robbery.
The events transpired in the early hours of March 15 at a hotel establishment in Maspalomas. According to investigations, the arrested individuals allegedly used dating applications to contact men, primarily elderly tourists, for presumed criminal purposes.
During the incident, the 84-year-old tourist detected an attempted robbery or suspicious behavior, which led to a struggle. In the confrontation, the man fell to the ground and died. Subsequently, the couple moved to Tenerife, where it is believed they attempted to continue recruiting victims.
