The Gran Canaria-based team, founded almost five decades ago, receives this prestigious award recognizing its trajectory and recent sporting successes. Rocasa succeeds the Heidelberg Volkswagen Sports Club, awarded in 2025.
The 2025/26 season has been unforgettable for Rocasa Gran Canaria. The Telde team was crowned Spanish League champion after defeating Super Amara Bera Bera in an exciting final held on May 31st. Just a few months later, on September 5th, the club won the Spanish Super Cup in Vigo, also against Bera Bera, thus lifting its third Super Cup.
The club, presided over by Antonio Moreno, is a benchmark in national women's handball and a model of overcoming challenges. Founded in 1978 in Las Remudas, a neighborhood of Telde, it has grown without losing its roots, maintaining a constant commitment to youth development and player training.
Under the technical direction of Dejan Ojeda, the team has regained the League title and won the Super Cup. Ojeda, the youngest coach in the top women's category, has also been recognized with the award for best technical direction.
Rocasa Gran Canaria will receive the 2026 Canary Islands Sports Award for Best Team on November 13th, during the gala of the third edition of these awards, which will be held at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
