The text, set in the author's childhood in 1940s France, came about through the University's connection with Lydia Vázquez, Professor of French Literature at the University of the Basque Country and Ernaux's official Spanish translator.
Vázquez introduced Ernaux to the 'Laboratorio Cinécourts' initiative and conveyed the Aula de la Francofonía's request for collaboration, to which Ernaux agreed.
'Laboratorio Cinécourts' is a French-language space for literature and audiovisual creation open to students from Secondary School, High School, Universities, Official Language Schools, Alianzas Francesas, and Institut Français. It culminates in the ULPGC's Francophone Short Film Festival: Cinécourts, offering free masterclasses, workshops, and encounters, both in-person and online, with professionals from the literary and audiovisual fields.
Lydia Vázquez will open the Laboratory in November with a masterclass dedicated to Ernaux's donated text and her entire literary universe. Participants will receive training in audiovisual techniques and delve into the invited author's literary world, guided by one of the people who knows her work best, her translator.
Filmmaker David Ernaux-Briot, the writer's son, will preside over the awards ceremony in Gran Canaria in April. He will also participate in a public event titled 'Getting to Know...' featuring a discussion about his film 'Les années super 8'.
