The La Guancha City Council has presented the commemorative program for the bicentennial of the 1826 flood, a natural disaster that profoundly marked the municipality.

La Guancha is preparing to commemorate the 1826 flood, a natural disaster that two centuries ago left a deep mark on the municipality and collective memory. The acting mayor and head of Culture, Alejandro Hernández, unveiled the program's poster in front of the current Santa Catalina hermitage, a significant site for remembering this anniversary. The current hermitage was built after the flood, as the previous temple was completely destroyed.
Under the slogan «The 1826 Flood. 200 Years of Memory», the City Council has organized various events to bring this historical episode closer, understand its consequences, and honor the victims. The program includes informative talks, a tour of places linked to the flood in the town center and in Santa Catalina, institutional remembrance and tribute ceremonies, a theatrical performance, and the placement of commemorative plaques.
The cultural activities will begin on Friday, November 6, at 8:00 PM in the Municipal Training Center with a round table titled «The 1826 Flood. Memory of Two Centuries». On Saturday, November 7, at 10:00 AM, a tour «The Places of the Flood» will take place through the urban area and Santa Catalina, with free registration.
On Sunday, November 8, at 12:00 PM, the Plaza de La Asomada will host an institutional ceremony to remember the victims and unveil a commemorative plaque. On Saturday, November 14, at 7:00 PM in the Plaza de El Natero (Santa Catalina), the company Burka Teatro will perform the play «The San Florencio Storm».
On Tuesday, November 24, at 7:00 PM, another commemorative plaque will be unveiled in the plaza of the Santa Catalina hermitage. Additionally, throughout November, an educational booklet about the event will be distributed to the municipality's educational centers, introducing this chapter of history to younger generations.
