A political group in La Gomera has publicly denounced the stagnation of the comprehensive 'La Calera accesible' plan in Valle Gran Rey, three years after its presentation, demanding accountability from insular and local authorities.
The group Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) has expressed its dissatisfaction with the inaction regarding the 'La Calera accesible' plan, a project announced with great anticipation in May 2022. According to the group, promises to improve accessibility in the La Calera neighborhood have not materialized, and the current situation is identical to that of three years ago.
“
"More than three years after the president of the Cabildo de La Gomera and the then mayor of Valle Gran Rey gathered residents of La Calera to present the comprehensive plan 'La Calera accesible', the neighborhood remains exactly the same: with no barriers removed and not a single work executed."
The 2022 meeting was presented as a milestone for the community, with commitments including the creation of a road access from Las Orijamas, the elimination of architectural barriers, and the improvement of internal alleys in the town center. Technical projects were commissioned to a specialized company, and economic collaboration between the involved administrations was announced.
However, the political group emphasizes that none of these commitments have been fulfilled. There is no record of specific budget allocations, ongoing tenders, or a public timeline for the execution of the works. The plan, according to the complaint, has disappeared from the institutional agenda.
Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) has requested detailed information on the status of the technical projects, inter-institutional collaboration, and allocated funds. It has also directly questioned the Cabildo de La Gomera, which had committed to leading coordination and providing necessary resources, but has so far offered no public explanations about the process.

"La Calera needs no more promises and announcements. It needs to see realities, mobility solutions, and the respect deserved by those who have been waiting for decades."
The group demands immediate transparency and public accountability from both institutions, considering the repeated postponement of this project a clear example of how institutional propaganda systematically prevails over the real needs of citizens.
