The Civil Guard maintains that a brake system failure is the main working hypothesis. According to authorities, the driver, a professional with extensive experience on the island's roads, attempted to control the vehicle after detecting the technical fault before it fell down the embankment. The rapid stopping of the vehicle before continuing its descent prevented a tragedy of greater proportions.

The Canarian Government's Ministry of Health has provided an update on the condition of those affected by the bus accident in La Gomera, with imminent discharges on the island and stable patients in Tenerife hospitals.
The Management of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Hospital, under the Canarian Government's Ministry of Health, has issued an official statement detailing the health status of individuals involved in the bus accident that occurred last Friday on the GM-2 road in La Gomera. The Canarian hospital network continues to provide care to those affected, with several medical discharges expected on the island.
According to the latest medical report, the three individuals who remained in the Emergency Department of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Hospital are showing positive progress. The hospital management has confirmed that, barring unforeseen circumstances, these patients are expected to be discharged throughout this Saturday. It is worth noting that, out of the 28 initial occupants of the Gomera Tours vehicle, the majority (21 people) had already left the hospital the previous day after receiving treatment for various injuries.
Attention is also focused on patients who, due to the severity of their injuries, were airlifted to Tenerife. At Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, two people remain hospitalized; one is in stable condition, while the other remains stable but serious. The patient transferred to Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC) is also in stable condition.
The incident, which tragically resulted in the death of a 77-year-old British tourist, took place at kilometer 4.500 of the dorsal road, in the area known as El Revolcadero. The bus plunged down an embankment approximately ten meters high while transporting a group of tourists from Playa Santiago to San Sebastián de La Gomera. The Civil Guard is investigating the incident, pointing to a possible brake system failure as the primary cause.
The Cabildo de La Gomera restored traffic on the GM-2 road yesterday afternoon, once emergency operations were concluded. Maintenance personnel have continued to work on securing the roadside affected by the impact. The transport company has stated that the route is operated daily and that the vehicle met usual standards, marking this as the first accident of extreme severity recorded by the company in its operational history on the island.
