A first working meeting between technical teams from the Government of the Canary Islands and the La Gomera Council took place at the island institution's headquarters in San Sebastián de La Gomera. The main objective was to present the Strategic Projects Office (OPE) and analyze cooperation opportunities to drive strategic initiatives on the island.
During the meeting, Elvira Balguerías, director of the OPE, detailed the functions of this body, which is part of Proexca, as a support tool for public administrations. The OPE facilitates the identification, coordination, and acceleration of strategic projects for the Canary Islands.
For its part, the first vice-president of the La Gomera Council, Adasat Reyes, presented the key actions being developed on the island, focusing on innovation, technology, the aerospace industry, and the diversification of the productive model. Among the highlighted initiatives are the AWES project (airborne wind energy systems), the drone operations base in Valle Gran Rey, a health corridor to optimize response times, and the Rockoon project for stratospheric launches.
David Pérez-Dionis emphasized that the Office aims to support island administrations in launching strategic projects. He noted that La Gomera has very relevant initiatives and significant potential for collaboration on new programs.
Casimiro Curbelo highlighted that this initial meeting opens a space for joint work with the Government of the Canary Islands to promote plans that diversify the island's economy and create new development opportunities.
The meeting established a framework for collaboration and a shared vision regarding La Gomera's potential as an ideal territory for developing innovative and strategic initiatives that contribute to the economic and social growth of the Canary Islands. The island currently has seven projects declared strategic through the Sandbox Aeroespacial program.
