SEPRONA agents of the Civil Guard in La Gomera have seized over 28 kilograms of fish and seafood being transported irregularly in a vehicle.

The intervention occurred after investigation and surveillance efforts, in collaboration with fishing sector professionals, who alerted about potential irregularities in the marketing of seafood products. Agents intercepted a cargo vehicle carrying shrimp, moray eels, bream, and cabrilla.
During the inspection, it was found that the merchandise lacked the regulatory documentation proving its legal origin. Furthermore, deficiencies were detected in the conservation conditions, as the cold chain was not adequately guaranteed, posing a risk to public health.
Due to the inability to prove the legality of the catches and the health risks involved, the entire shipment was seized and destroyed, thus preventing its entry into the consumption chain. Corresponding administrative complaints have been filed for these actions.

The purchase and sale of fishery products outside legally established channels pose a risk to public health and hinder the protection of marine resources.

The Civil Guard reminds the public of the importance of purchasing these products only from authorized establishments that guarantee their traceability and food safety.
