Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG) has reiterated its demand to the ASG government group for a definitive solution to the lack of lighting in several island tunnels, a long-standing issue affecting road safety.

The left-wing party emphasizes the need to address this structural problem, which has persisted for decades despite citizen pressure that has led to the gradual resolution of some cases.

"Most tunnels have gone decades without light, and even today, several cases remain pending."

In addition to the La Culata tunnel, IxLG points out that other infrastructures such as the tunnels of Agulo, El Almendrillo (in the municipality of Vallehermoso), and those of Roque Blanco and Las Toscas (located in San Sebastián de La Gomera) still lack adequate lighting.

"IxLG believes it is unacceptable that, in 2026, there are tunnels in the island's road network without an adequate lighting system, posing a clear risk to drivers and other users."

Aarón Rodríguez Ramos · Spokesperson for Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG)
The progressive Gomera party urges the Cabildo to establish a clear action plan to provide lighting to all tunnels that still lack this service, thereby ensuring minimum safety conditions on the island's road network.

"Although some would like us to remain silent, Iniciativa por La Gomera will continue to bring the real demands of citizens to all institutions and demand solutions to problems that have gone unresolved for too many years due to the same poor governance of almost four decades."
