The La Gomera Island Council has activated a level 1 alert due to the risk of forest fires and high temperatures affecting the island and the archipelago.

The measure, following guidelines from the Canary Islands Government's General Directorate of Security and Emergencies, introduces preventive restrictions across the island. Exceptions apply only to areas below 400 meters in altitude in the northern parts of Agulo, Hermigua, and Vallehermoso.
The regulations explicitly prohibit lighting bonfires, barbecues, and wood ovens in outdoor areas. This restriction extends to the use of stoves in forest recreational areas lacking safety devices such as spark arresters. Additionally, burning plant remains, using machinery that may generate sparks, and pyrotechnic displays are strictly forbidden.
For the 2026 prevention and firefighting campaign, running until October 31, the institution has a reinforced operation of over 200 personnel and an investment exceeding 2.5 million euros. Coordination is centralized through CECOPIN, integrating various security forces, volunteer firefighters, Civil Protection, and National Park staff.
Meteorological forecasts indicate a warm air mass of African origin will push temperatures up to 38ºC on the island's peaks. In case of any emergency, authorities urge citizens to contact the 1-1-2 emergency service.
