The 'La Gomera Viaja' program, an initiative by the Cabildo de La Gomera, has successfully commenced its first trips of the year, transporting dozens of elderly residents from the island to socio-cultural destinations on the mainland.

Starting this Thursday, participants are already en route to explore emblematic sites in Pamplona, while another group is scheduled to depart this Sunday for Valencia. Additionally, the first group of people with disabilities and reduced mobility will travel to Seville.

"We have witnessed the great enthusiasm with which they have begun their journey, demonstrating that programs like this are not only essential for promoting active aging but also for facilitating spaces for coexistence, leisure, and learning."

the president of the Cabildo
The president of the Cabildo highlighted the excellent reception of this initiative since its implementation, anticipating that it will benefit over 800 people this year. He also reiterated the institution's commitment to such programs, ensuring their continuation throughout the year and planning new departures to meet the demand of those on the waiting list.
The island's councillor for Social Policies, who bid farewell to the first group of travelers, explained that participants will enjoy cultural itineraries specifically adapted to their interests and needs. They will visit historically and culturally significant places, always with the necessary logistical support to ensure the safety and comfort of all travelers.
These trips are the first of several scheduled for the coming months, including a specific call for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, who can travel accompanied. The program covers flights, transport from origin to airport, internal transfers at the destination, an adapted activity circuit, specialized accompanying staff, and comprehensive travel insurance.
Trips are planned for periods with pleasant temperatures, avoiding extreme cold or heat, and outside peak tourist seasons to ensure a more tranquil and enjoyable environment for the proposed destinations.
The Cabildo has scheduled an informational meeting for participants with departures planned for May 14 and May 17. This meeting will take place next Monday, May 11, at 11:00 AM, in the Plenary Hall of the island Institution.
