“"Nothing is being fulfilled, and furthermore, the most serious thing is that when these users request an in-person assessment, they are told they would have to wait two years, thus pressuring the user, forcing these individuals to accept the telephone assessment even if it does not align with the real needs required by their disability."

The PSOE group in the Cabildo of La Gomera has denounced the malfunction of the new disability assessment system, implemented after an agreement between the island corporation and the Government of the Canary Islands, describing the results as "disastrous" for users.
The socialists point out that the assessment team from the Government of the Canary Islands, which was supposed to be operational on the island, has not yet arrived. According to their complaints, assessments are being conducted by phone, without a face-to-face evaluation of those affected, leading to discrepancies between the assigned disability degrees and the services they actually require.
These criticisms contradict the statements made by the area's minister, Adasat Reyes, who at the beginning of September last year promised that the service would "prioritize people," "simplify and streamline procedures," and "bring the service closer to the people of La Gomera," avoiding unnecessary travel. The current reality, according to the PSOE, is the opposite.
The party recalls that the minister also highlighted the operational decentralization, assuring that "disability assessment teams would be present on each island" and that management could be entrusted to the island councils through collaboration agreements, thus offering a service "closer and adapted to our needs."
The socialists add that, according to information received months ago, the delay in the teams' arrival was due to waiting for a new headquarters for the Cabildo's Social Services. Despite this new facility being open to the public for two months, the assessment teams have still not visited the island.
In light of this situation, the PSOE demands to know the status of the agreement and the reasons why the teams are not coming to the island for assessments, urging the Cabildo to demand that the Government of the Canary Islands fulfill its commitments.
