Puertos Canarios and the Cabildo de La Gomera have formalized an inter-administrative collaboration agreement to enhance the use of the facilities at the Puerto de Vueltas, located in Valle Gran Rey. The primary objective is to facilitate the establishment of strategic companies in the field of new technologies, with a specific focus on the aerospace and maritime sectors.
This initiative is part of the Gomera 36 Strategy (2023-2036), promoted by the Cabildo, which aims to diversify the island's economy through the development of new technologies and the attraction of innovative companies, while respecting the territory's status as a Biosphere Reserve.
The document highlights La Gomera's geographical and environmental conditions as ideal for aerospace technology activities, including drones and satellite balloon launches. The Puerto de Vueltas is positioned as a key infrastructure for research and technological development due to its location.
The Cabildo de La Gomera will be responsible for promoting and managing the arrival of interested companies, coordinating with Puertos Canarios to ensure these activities are compatible with the port's ordinary operations.
Puertos Canarios, in turn, will authorize the applications submitted by the Cabildo after verifying their compatibility with port regulations and safety standards. A specific port area will be designated for these new uses.
The agreement will have an initial term of four years, renewable, and includes the creation of a semi-annual monitoring commission. Both institutions commit to promoting this collaboration, emphasizing Puertos Canarios' support for the Gomera 36 Strategy.
