The 3rd Canary Week of Traditional Games and Sports held a school gathering in San Sebastián de La Gomera, bringing together a hundred students to practice and learn about the archipelago's sporting heritage.

The activity took place in the Torre del Conde park, where fifth-grade primary schoolchildren from the municipality actively participated in workshops and exhibitions of various island-linked modalities.
This initiative, promoted by the Directorate General of Indigenous Sports of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, aims to promote the Canarian sporting legacy among new generations.
The event included demonstrations of lucha canaria, pina, juego del palo, and bola canaria, with special prominence given to pelotamano, a discipline with little presence on the 'Colombina' island. Adapted workshops allowed students to learn directly about these representative traditional disciplines.

"One of the objectives of this week is precisely to bring to each island modalities that, for various reasons, have less presence in their daily lives, so that schoolchildren can learn about them, practice them, and understand that they are also part of their cultural heritage."

"Activities like this allow us to awaken the curiosity of the youngest and broaden the knowledge about the richness and diversity of traditional Canary Islands sports."

The program for the 3rd Canary Week of Traditional Games and Sports will continue on other islands, including Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria, with various exhibitions and activities for schoolchildren, and will conclude on May 30th in El Hierro with an institutional wrestling match.
These activities are part of the Canary Islands Month, which under the slogan ‘We are Heritage of the Canary Islands’, celebrates over 110 events across all islands to recognize and preserve the traditions, history, and identity of the archipelago.
