The collaboration between both administrations will allow progress in drafting the slope stabilization project, a prior step required by the Directorate General of Coasts to recover this area of the Vallehermoso coastline. The Cabildo of La Gomera is preparing the tender documents to contract the drafting of this technical project.
Manuel Domínguez explained that slope stabilization is an essential prior action to undertake the beach's rehabilitation, due to the risk of landslides. "Before proposing any intervention to recover the beach, it is necessary to have a project that allows us to evaluate and resolve the safety conditions of the environment," he stated.
For his part, Casimiro Curbelo emphasized the importance of this prior action to respond to a historical demand from the western area of La Gomera. The island institution will tender the drafting of the project to have the document as soon as possible and advance in the materialization of slope stabilization. "The unity of public administrations is fundamental in actions of this type that have great administrative complexity," he concluded.
The current problem at Alojera beach dates back to infrastructure built in the late 1980s to promote year-round sand retention. However, the configuration of that action and subsequent storms led to the loss of the breakwater, with the opposite effect to what was initially intended, to the point that the beach currently lacks sand.
The meeting served to analyze the status of preparatory work and the coordination between both administrations, in order to continue with the necessary technical procedures before studying possible actions aimed at the recovery of this space on the La Gomera coast.
