The Government of the Canary Islands has completed the projects of the ‘La Palma Biosphere Reserve’ Sustainability Tourism Plan, which involved a total investment of 2.5 million euros.

The Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Tourist Quality, has fully executed the projects included in the ‘La Palma Biosphere Reserve’ Sustainability Tourism Plan (PST).
The plan had a total investment of 2.5 million euros, financed through an agreement between the State Secretariat for Tourism (SETUR), the Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Cabildo of La Palma, contributing 40%, 40%, and 20% respectively.
Key executed works include the installation of surveillance posts at the Tajogaite volcano, the construction of a footbridge over the Las Angustias ravine, and the museological endowment of the El Pilar Interpretation Center in Cumbre Vieja. The Marcos y Cordero trail has also been improved, along with accessibility works at viewpoints.
The PST ‘La Palma Biosphere Reserve’ aims to promote and enhance the island's natural resources and public use facilities for educational, cultural, and active leisure activities.
The completion of the plan, which has helped consolidate the transformation of La Palma's tourism model towards sustainable management, was made possible by inter-administrative collaboration. This model was recently recognized with the Canary Islands Award for Sustainable Tourist Destination.
