The Civil Guard has launched an investigation into a man for the theft of over 1,000 metal stakes, valued at 8,000 euros, from a banana plantation in the Aridane Valley, La Palma.

Officers from the Investigation Area of the Main Post of Los Llanos de Aridane have initiated proceedings against the alleged perpetrator, who exploited his residence adjacent to the affected farm to commit the thefts continuously. The individual accessed the property when the sharecropper was absent, gradually removing the tools without arousing suspicion.
The stakes, galvanized iron bars approximately three meters long, are essential tools for banana cultivation, preventing plants from bending or falling under the weight of their bunches. The theft of over a thousand of these items represents a significant loss for the agricultural operation.
Following a complaint filed by the property owners, the Civil Guard began an investigation that revealed the accused was selling the stolen stakes on the second-hand market to other banana farmers, offering them at a lower-than-usual price. Thanks to these inquiries, 600 units of the stolen stakes were located and recovered from banana farms in the municipality of Tazacorte.
The recovered tools have been placed under judicial custody pending the resolution of the proceedings. The instructed diligences have been forwarded to the Court of First Instance of Los Llanos de Aridane for processing.
