The General Directorate of Blood Donation and Hemotherapy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has launched its summer blood donation campaign in La Palma. The initiative, which starts today, will run for two weeks, with a mobile unit visiting several municipalities on the island to facilitate participation from residents and visitors.
Today, the mobile unit is located at the Plaza de Los Álamos in Breña Alta, operating from 3:45 PM to 8:30 PM. Tomorrow, the unit will move to the Plaza de Montserrat in San Andrés y Sauces, with hours from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Between August 12th and 14th, the campaign will continue in Santa Cruz de La Palma, located on O´Daly street. On Wednesday and Thursday, hours will be from 3:45 PM to 9:00 PM, while on Friday, hours will be from 8:45 AM to 1:45 PM.
Subsequently, on Monday, August 17th, the mobile unit will be available in El Paso, from 3:45 PM to 9:00 PM. From August 18th to 21st, the team will travel to Los Llanos de Aridane, specifically to Doctor Fleming avenue. The hours will be: Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
In addition to the mobile unit, the Hospital Universitario de La Palma has a fixed blood extraction point. This center is open from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Fridays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. On weekends, Saturdays can donate from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The basic requirements to donate blood include being between eighteen and 65 years old (up to sixty for first-time donors), weighing over fifty kilograms, and being in good general health, as well as not being pregnant.
