The Canary Islands School of Health and Social Services (ESSSCAN), under the Ministry of Health, organized this training event in collaboration with the Directorate General for Studies, Training, and Research in Public Security. The course was delivered in person, with practical exercises conducted in the midland and summit areas of La Palma.
The curriculum covered the PAS Protocol (Protect, Alert, and Assist), scene safety assessment, and recognition and response to cardiac arrest and foreign body airway obstruction in both adult and pediatric populations. It also addressed identifying signs of patient severity, controlling hemorrhages, wound management, and the correct use of tourniquets and hemostatic agents.
Participants also learned basic bandaging techniques, limb immobilization, victim mobilization, and how to manage impaled objects in the chest and abdomen, along with safety measures and stabilization for patients in shock.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, the training included practical sessions where students applied their learning to simulated emergency scenarios in natural environments and practiced first aid techniques using available resources.
