The Hospital Universitario de La Palma has held the third edition of educational talks by its Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit, focusing on the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases.

The activity, aimed at patients, families, and healthcare professionals, covered key aspects such as cardiovascular risk factors, nutrition, and emotional control. The initiative seeks to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and comprehensive management of these pathologies.
The hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit, operational since 2024, has treated 171 patients with acute cardiac ischemic events. This multidisciplinary unit works to promote functional recovery, reduce morbidity, and improve patients' quality of life.
The presentations featured cardiologist Cira Lara Kim, rehabilitation physician I-Ting Su Yang, and the head of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Ana Trujillo. Topics discussed included dietary patterns in prevention, stress reduction, and the importance of addressing the disease from the critical phase to active recovery.
Dr. Ana Trujillo presented aspects of dietary patterns and shared practical menus, while cardiologist Cira Lara Kim delved into risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Rehabilitation physician I- Ting Su addressed the effects of stress, anxiety, and depression, offering relaxation techniques.
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit team comprises specialists in rehabilitation, cardiology, pulmonology, nursing, physiotherapy, psychology, and auxiliary care technicians. The program includes supervised physical exercise, health education, risk factor control, and psychological support, demonstrating effectiveness in improving quality of life and reducing cardiovascular events.
