The La Palma Island Council has put into operation the third lane on the Los Castañeros curve of the LP-3 road, a project that involved an investment of 2.2 million euros and addresses a long-standing demand for the island.

The intervention included the creation of a new 1.2-kilometer third lane, connected to a pre-existing double overtaking lane. According to the Island Council, this action increases overtaking capacity and improves road safety at this point.
Furthermore, the road platform on the inside of the curve has been widened by approximately four meters. This expansion has allowed for a redesign of the lane distribution to achieve an adequate turning angle for heavy vehicles, as well as cleaning, signage, drainage, and lighting work in the area.
This project represents the first phase of the work, extending from the aforementioned curve to the intersection of the bridge connecting to the new summit tunnel. The main objective is to address the current traffic density in the area.
