The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands is participating in the 9th Motor and Renewables Fair in Los Llanos de Aridane with a 100% electric competition vehicle and an information stand from the Green Offices of the Canary Islands.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has participated in the 9th Motor and Renewables Fair in Los Llanos de Aridane, an initiative by the Open Commercial Zone of the municipality. In collaboration with the Canarian Federation of Motorsport (FCA), a 100% electric competition vehicle, driven by Pablo Suárez, was presented. The aim is to leverage the strong roots of motorsport in La Palma to raise citizen awareness about electric mobility and its importance for the decarbonization of the archipelago.
Sustainable mobility continues to gain ground in La Palma, where since 2025, more than half of the vehicles sold are ecological, according to data from ACONAUTO. This trend reflects the electrification of the vehicle fleet and the growing adoption of alternatives to combustion vehicles.
Mariano H. Zapata, Minister of Ecological Transition, accompanied by councilor Víctor Manuel González and the president of the Open Commercial Zone, Javier Pérez Ramos, highlighted that "sport, and especially motorsport, are valuable tools for conveying sustainability messages to society." He emphasized that electric mobility "has a place in an area with such tradition and passion in the Canary Islands as motor racing."
Zapata stated that "the evolution of registrations shows that sustainable mobility is already a reality in our islands." He added that "from the administrations, we must continue to support this change, facilitating both the incorporation of less polluting vehicles and the development of the necessary infrastructure."
Data from FREDICA on the vehicle fleet in La Palma and Los Llanos de Aridane confirm this evolution. So far in 2006, the island has 2,593 alternative energy vehicles and 636 pure electric vehicles. In Los Llanos de Aridane, the figures are 633 and 167, respectively.
The need to strengthen the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in La Palma is highlighted. In Los Llanos de Aridane, the objective is to expand the available charging points, which currently total 7 installed by the town hall and 4 by the island council. The council plans to add 2 more.
The electric vehicle on display, prepared for rallycross, will compete in two mountain events this year, one in El Hierro and another soon in La Palma, with Pablo Suárez at the wheel. Its presence aims to showcase that innovation and sustainability can also be part of motorsport.
The Green Offices of the Canary Islands also had an information stand at the fair, which was open from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Mariano H. Zapata praised the initiatives of the Open Commercial Zone of Los Llanos de Aridane regarding sustainability.
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy continues to promote outreach methods close to citizens, utilizing meeting spaces and activities with significant social following to drive more sustainable mobility.
