The Government of the Canary Islands has ended the pre-alert situation for marine pollution in the Port of Arrecife, Lanzarote, following containment and fuel removal operations.

The decision was made at 2:30 PM today, Thursday, October 8, 2026, applying the Territorial Plan for Civil Protection Emergency of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (PLATECA). The incident stemmed from the sinking of the fishing vessel Monte Arballu at the Naos cruise pier on September 29, which caused a fuel slick within the dock.
Response efforts included containing the spill with anti-pollution booms, absorbent material, and skimmer equipment. Subsequently, operations were carried out to stabilize the vessel, lift it with cranes, and move it first to pontoons and then to the shipyard.
Following these actions, the Port Authority communicated the deactivation of the Maritime Internal Plan (PIM) at 11:30 AM, and the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas deactivated the National Maritime Plan (PMN) at 11:55 AM. With the pollution located, contained, and removed as much as possible, and both plans deactivated, the activation of the PLATECA in pre-alert status is also concluded.
