The athlete, originally from Arrecife, has shared his vision to establish a platform that will allow fighters from the Canary Islands to access higher-level competitions. His initiative seeks to facilitate their path to international promotions, leveraging his own experience and contacts within the global MMA circuit.
The fighter, who became the first Spaniard to secure a victory in Dana White's Contender Series and make a successful UFC debut, highlighted the difficulties athletes from the islands face in developing in this sport. He emphasizes the lack of infrastructure and the necessity of competing abroad to test oneself against the best, a strategy he adopted himself by fighting in Sweden with only two professional bouts.
“"If I have achieved it, being a person just like all of them, and having had the same resources, I give them the hope that they can too."
Currently, the fighter is involved in filming a movie in Barcelona, alongside actors Mario and Óscar Casas, which will conclude on May 4. After this commitment, his primary focus will be preparing for his next UFC fight, which he hopes will take place on July 11 in Las Vegas.
The athlete also reflected on the personal and professional challenges he has overcome, including the loss of his father shortly before a crucial fight. This devastating event spurred him to demonstrate his mental strength and dedication, leading to a 12-fight winning streak since then.
With the creation of Guanche’s Warrior Championship, the fighter aims not only to provide an opportunity for Canarian talents but also to consolidate the sport of MMA in the archipelago, capitalizing on the growing visibility and interest generated by his own trajectory in the global elite.
