The III Canary Islands Women and Sports Gala, organized by the Government of the Canary Islands and Charter 100 Canarias, took place at the Jameos del Agua auditorium in Lanzarote, honoring twenty-three women for their contributions to island sports.
The event, held last Thursday, recognized professionals, entities, and projects that have made significant impacts in their respective fields. With a full house, the gala solidified its success and its itinerant nature, being held for the first time in Lanzarote after two previous editions in Gran Canaria.

"This gala reflects the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to real equality in sports, recognizing the talent, effort, and careers of women who are role models across all the islands."
During the ceremony, several of the honorees shared their experiences, highlighting the importance of making visible the role of women in sports development. Among the speakers were Marlene Merle, Cecilia Dorado, Tayri de León, Julia Samsó, and María Cantero, representing all the awardees.
The recognitions covered various categories, including Best Regional and Island Athletes, with distinctions for athletes from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, and La Graciosa. Awards were also given for sports dissemination, architecture applied to sports, development of innovative initiatives, health, individual career achievements, and commitment to sustainability.
In the field of leadership and collective action, the captain of a handball team from Lanzarote, an association of women athletes for their promotion of equality, and a sports club from Tenerife for their promotion of women's sports were honored. Sports management, refereeing, training, and inclusion through adapted sports also received recognition, as did a prominent figure in traditional Canarian sports.
“
"This gala once again demonstrates that women's sports in the Canary Islands not only have a present but also a solid future, built thanks to the effort and talent of many women who have been recognized today, but who represent many more."
The gala concluded with an artistic performance, reaffirming its role as a space for inspiration and gathering for women's sports in the Canary Islands.
