Las Breñas, Lanzarote, has concluded its San Luis Gonzaga patron saint festivities with a day marked by emotion, devotion, and remembrance of victims from recent tragedies.

The town of Las Breñas brought its patron saint festivities for San Luis Gonzaga to a close this Sunday with a day that blended tradition, sentiment, and a profound sense of community. The highlight was the procession of the Patron Saint of Youth, which gathered numerous residents and authorities.
During the solemn mass, the parish priest of Yaiza and archpriest of Lanzarote, Jonathan Almeida, offered words of support to families affected by recent losses, including a child who drowned in a swimming pool in Playa Blanca and a couple who died in a road accident between Playa Blanca and Yaiza. Almeida also called for institutional unity to address public concerns, such as road safety on the route connecting the two locations.
Following the religious ceremony, the image of San Luis Gonzaga paraded through the streets of Las Breñas in a procession that reaffirmed the continuity of a tradition deeply rooted in local life. Upon returning to the square, the Agrupación Folklórica Rubicón presented musical offerings, performing pieces like a folía and the Sorondongo de Timanfaya.
The religious segment of the day concluded with a performance by the Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza, which presented a repertoire of sacred music in honor of the patron. The festive closing featured a tribute concert to Alejandro Fernández, children's activities, a monologue by Himar Armas, and musical performances by Banda Nueva, Mambo con Fuego, and DJ Perera. The traditional Encuentro Folklórico Víctor Fernández Gopar was also held, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Parranda Janubio.
The Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, highlighted the atmosphere of coexistence and the variety of offerings for all ages, emphasizing the value of traditions. Meanwhile, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, expressed gratitude for the public's participation and the contributions of collectives, municipal staff, and security and emergency services.
