This initiative follows the competitive tender resolved last February, where the company was not allowed to install new equipment. The Ministry of Ecological Transition has made the administrative authorization requests publicly available, as reported in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands.
The power plants affected by these investments include Punta Grande in Lanzarote, Barranco de Tirajana and Jinámar in Gran Canaria, Los Guinchos in La Palma, and Granadilla in Tenerife. It is worth noting that the Government of the Canary Islands, following the tender resolution, intends to close two Endesa power plants in Fuerteventura and Tenerife.
The largest portion of the investment, 30.6 million euros, will be allocated to the Barranco de Tirajana plant to extend the lifespan of three gas turbines and implement other improvements. This is followed by the Granadilla de Abona plant, with 24.1 million euros, aimed at upgrading two gas turbines to ensure reliable long-term operation, without increasing installed capacity or generation.
At Punta Grande (Lanzarote), 6.2 million euros will be invested in a gas turbine. The Los Guinchos plant (La Palma) will receive 4.5 million euros for component renewal, and Jinámar (Gran Canaria) will allocate 3.9 million euros to update two gas turbines. None of these projects are subject to environmental impact assessment.
