The capture took place on April 8 in the town of Tías, Lanzarote, just 24 hours after Ireland issued a European Arrest Warrant (EAW). The arrested individual was considered a central figure in one of Ireland's most dangerous criminal structures and was on the radar of the ENFAST network.
Garda officers traveled to Spain specifically to collaborate in the operation that allowed the fugitive's whereabouts to be located on the Canary Island. According to the General Directorate of Police, the detainee held a leadership position at the top of the organization, directing its intelligence cell and managing the criminal network's financial movements alongside his father.
“"The arrested individual has been located in a municipality on the island of Lanzarote. He was considered the leader of the organization's intelligence cell and directed its monetary movements."
This is not the first time authorities have acted against the 'Hutch' clan in the archipelago. In October 2024, Gerard Hutch, known as 'The Monk' and considered the mafia boss, was also arrested in Lanzarote along with eight other individuals linked to crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and money laundering.
The 'Hutch' organization is characterized by strong intergenerational family ties and a historical presence in Dublin. Since 2016, it has been engaged in a violent conflict with the 'Kinahan' clan, a feud that has resulted in 18 fatalities, mostly members of the 'Hutch' group. The escalation of violence originated with the murder of Gary Patrick Hutch in Mijas, Málaga, in 2015, triggering a series of retaliations. The investigation into the ramifications of this organization in Spain remains open.
