The Cabildo of Lanzarote has greenlit funding exceeding 2.7 million euros for municipal projects in the town councils of Arrecife and Haría, as approved in last Thursday's plenary session.

The island's capital, Arrecife, will receive the largest portion of the subsidy, amounting to 2,465,539.21 euros. These funds are earmarked for various initiatives, including the urban redesign of the Los Geranios-LZ3 roundabout, enhancing the energy efficiency of outdoor lighting in the Playa del Cable and La Bufona areas, and the purchase of three electric vehicles for the Public Works department.
Meanwhile, the Haría Town Council will receive an allocation of 299,865.24 euros. Planned works in this municipality include the paving of Peña Redonda and Roque del Oeste streets, accessibility improvements to the Órzola promenade, the installation of a pedestrian walkway over Barranco La Negra, and the acquisition of a side-loading waste collection truck.
These subsidies are part of the Municipal Cooperation Plan, an initiative by the Cabildo to support actions related to infrastructure, accessibility, sustainability, and public service improvements across the island's seven municipalities. Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort highlighted the importance of these plans as a tool for channeling municipal investments.
The Vice President and Minister of Finance, Planning, and Projects, María Tovar, expressed the Cabildo's confidence in fully executing the approximately 6.3 million euros allocated this fiscal year for Municipal Cooperation Plans, aiming to optimize public investment and facilitate project completion by the town councils.
The approval of these grants coincides with ongoing regularization processes for files from previous years. For Arrecife, pending reimbursements and deadlines for justifying funds from 2024 were mentioned. Since 2020, the capital's council has received over 18.6 million euros from these programs, with an effective execution of around 6.6 million euros.
The Haría Town Council has made a voluntary reimbursement of funds, and its execution rate stands at 56.33%. Minister María Tovar also reported on pending files from other municipalities such as Teguise and Tinajo, noting that the remaining local corporations have completed their regularization of previously received funds.
