The PSOE of Lanzarote, led by María Dolores Corujo, has strongly criticized the recent changes in criteria by the Cabildo regarding water management, demanding explanations for the lack of planning in an essential service for the island.

The general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and councilor in the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, has expressed concern over the instability in decisions related to the island's water supply. According to Corujo, in less than 24 hours, three different solutions have been proposed: the transfer of the service, the termination of the contract, and finally, the temporary intervention of the integral water cycle. This succession of announcements, in her opinion, demonstrates a clear lack of strategy on the part of the island president, Oswaldo Betancort.

"The problem is not just the contradiction, but that we are talking about an essential resource and an island that cannot afford more uncertainty."

The socialist leader described these actions as “improvisations” in a basic service, emphasizing that water supply and management require firm and coherent decisions. She noted that the island is going through a complex situation and that every change of direction has direct consequences for the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The water management system on the island depends on the Consorcio del Agua de Lanzarote, responsible for coordinating the entire water cycle.
Corujo framed this situation within a governing style based on improvised decisions and constant rectifications, which, she claims, has characterized the management of the last three years. Among the examples cited, she mentioned the failed attempt to allocate 90 million euros to the concessionaire company Canal Gestión Lanzarote and the declaration of two water emergencies that failed to resolve the system's structural problems. She also recalled the announcement of contract termination a year ago, which was reconsidered for a possible transfer to another company, and now the termination and intervention are being revisited.

"A pattern of action based on announcing first and rectifying later has been established."

Given this lack of “clear direction,” the PSOE has demanded that the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, offer clear public explanations to the citizenry. Corujo insists on the need to assume political responsibilities and to act with transparency and rigor to guarantee a quality service and a solid strategy that definitively resolves Lanzarote's water problems.
