The yacht from the RCN de Arrecife concluded its victory on a final day filled with excitement. Saturday's results had left the top 5 in the standings very tight, with only two points separating the first and fifth-placed boats at the start of Sunday. Two remaining races were set to decide the winner of the Baleària Canarias Final.
The boat owned by Yé Cabrera completed its performance with a first place, two seconds, and a third place in the races sailed. While the top spot went to the Lanzarote-based vessel, the rest of the podium featured Tinerfeño representation. The silver medal went to Macaco, from RCNT, helmed by Alejandro Pérez, and the bronze to Adrián Hoteles Macaronesia, from CV Navegantes de Arona.
“"We came with a group of young people with a lot of racing experience, who have given us an extra edge to achieve victory."
Alejandro Morales, skipper of Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, highlighted the inclusion of young Lanzarotean sailors, such as Alejandro Martín, Alonso Pérez, and the brothers Alberto and Miguel Ángel Morales, as a key factor for their success. This will be the second participation for the RCN de Arrecife boat in the Spanish Cruiser Championship with its current configuration, after having represented the islands in the 2022 edition.
The weather conditions were ideal, with a north wind ranging from 12 to 14 knots, allowing for two spectacular days of sailing in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The program was fully completed with the four scheduled races: one coastal and three windward-leeward.
The ten cruiser boats competing in the Final Baleària Canarias 2026 hailed from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and Lanzarote. They had secured their spot in this regional qualifier after winning their respective island eliminations.
It is worth noting that in the 2024 edition, the crew of Solum Aedes Home, now Macaco, with Javier Padrón at the helm, won the Spanish Championship, and obtained the silver medal the following year.
The Spanish Cruiser Championship, which debuted its current format in 2022 featuring crews that have won their respective regional qualifiers, is contested in one-design boats. After several editions held in Baiona, Pontevedra, this year the competition moves for the first time to Calpe, in Alicante, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Calpe from October 16th to 18th.
