The management of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote has begun the search for rural plots of at least 1,000 square meters to expand and renew the collection of the Cactus Garden, located near Guatiza.

The primary goal of this initiative is to ensure the continuous renewal of plant specimens and to strengthen the conservation and maintenance efforts of this emblematic space. To this end, a period for submitting offers for land acquisition has been opened.
The terms of the call specify that each plot offered must have a minimum area of 1,000 square meters and be rural in nature. Furthermore, the land must be located within a maximum distance of one and a half kilometers from the current facility, which houses one of the world's most significant cactus collections.

"We want to guarantee the durability and the best possible future for one of the most original spaces in the Manrique Universe."

the CEO of the Centers
An initial budget of 115,000 euros has been allocated for this acquisition. The incorporation of these new plots will allow for the creation of a strategic plant reserve, essential for the garden's future. The Cactus Garden, conceived by César Manrique, opened its doors in March 1990 and features hundreds of species from diverse parts of the world, including Mexico, Madagascar, and Peru.
It has been specified that this initiative does not include the expansion of the visitable area or the construction of greenhouses or other similar impactful infrastructures in the area, thus preserving the original essence and design of the site.
