The 5th Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries Fair of Teguise concluded this weekend in Lanzarote after hosting the 5th Island Cheese Contest, which honored the quality of local production.

The event, now a benchmark for the island's primary sector, served as a stage to recognize the work of local producers. During Saturday's session, a specialized jury evaluated various categories, ranging from fresh to aged cheeses, analyzing parameters such as texture, aroma, and the overall quality of the entries.
Quesería El Faro emerged as the big winner of this edition, securing the 2026 Empleita de Oro for the best cheese on the island, in addition to several awards in the pasteurized milk categories. Other producers such as Quesería Abuelo Machín, Quesería Filo El Cuchillo, and Quesería Finca de Uga were also recognized for their excellence.
The contest is supported by the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), an organization that promotes the value of the archipelago's products. Beyond the competition, the fair offered a varied program including workshops, tastings, and educational activities to bring the reality of the rural and fishing world closer to the public.
Institutional representatives present at the ceremony highlighted the strategic importance of these initiatives for the island's economy and the preservation of the agricultural landscape. The fair, which closed this Sunday, reaffirmed its role as an essential meeting point for the visibility of Lanzarote's farmers and livestock breeders.
