Water meter readings in the seven municipalities of Lanzarote will restart on Monday, June 8, under the direct management of the Insular Water Consortium. This change follows the termination of the contract with Canal Gestión Lanzarote, a subsidiary of Canal de Isabel II. According to the relevant counselor, Domingo Cejas, no readings will be taken this week to facilitate the transition.
Invoices issued from next week will bear the Consortium's details and will include consumption from the last reading up to the new readings starting Monday. The aim is to ensure the transition causes no inconvenience to subscribers, as stated by Cejas.
Subscribers who have not set up direct debit payments will still be required to settle outstanding bills issued by Canal Gestión Lanzarote for consumption recorded in the early months of the year.
On the labor front, the transfer of 205 employees, previously with the subsidiary of Canal de Isabel II, has been processed. Workers currently on leave or on sick leave will gradually transition to the Insular Water Consortium. They will continue to wear the uniform of the former company for a period until the Consortium's own material is available.
The website of Canal Gestión Lanzarote will remain operational to keep subscribers informed about the changes and ensure continuity of services during the adaptation phase. In-person and telephone support, the Virtual Office, and incident management will continue to be available through the existing channels. The goal is an orderly transition and the maintenance of service quality.
The definitive expulsion of the subsidiary of Canal de Isabel II was unanimously approved by the Cabildo and the local councils, supported by a favorable opinion from the Canary Islands Consultative Council. The measure became effective on Tuesday, with a delegation led by the island's president, Oswaldo Betancort.
