The Civil Guard has arrested a woman in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, who was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW). This warrant had been issued by the authorities in Slovakia, linking her to alleged property crimes.
The investigation began earlier this year when agents received information that the suspect, a Slovak national, might be residing on the island. According to information from her country's authorities, the woman allegedly impersonated others to obtain bank loans and illicit financial gains.
She is accused of a total of 58 fraud offenses, amounting to approximately 240,000 euros. For these crimes, the detainee could face a prison sentence of up to eight years. During the investigation, agents also confirmed that the woman had other active judicial claims in Spain, also related to fraud.
After several months of investigation and surveillance, the Civil Guard successfully identified her place of residence. Subsequently, an operation was launched, culminating in her arrest.
The arrested woman was brought before the Audiencia Nacional, the competent body for processing such European orders. This institution has issued the appropriate precautionary measures while her potential extradition to the Slovak authorities is being processed.
